In this style of clamp, the handle moves into a HORIZONTAL position when the clamp is closed.  When the clamp is actuated the handle and the toggle bar (clamping arm) travel in opposite directions with the toggle bar moving toward the workpiece as the handle is moved toward the horizontal position.
